“The first grade students were so excited about the opera that when we came back to the classroom, they sang to each other instead of talking!”
A fun, interactive adventure story where our intrepid heroes–Captain Confident and his faithful sidekick, Miss Newbie–go where others are afraid to go to find out what makes opera a great way to tell the story.
By discovering operatic “treasures”, the Explorers are transported directly into operatic scenes, magically singing the music and learning about opera. They learn about the types of stories and characters in operas, elements of opera, and most importantly, how live music and singing can tell the audience how characters feel, engaging their imagination.
Included are fourteen live excerpts from eleven different operas by Mozart, Puccini, Beethoven, Bizet, Rossini, Gounod, Strauss, Gershwin and Gilbert & Sullivan, both in English and their original languages. Performed by conservatory-trained, professional musicians, audiences can get up close and personal with an art form that's been bringing people to their feet for over 400 years.
